Rain proofing your windshield for spring

Have you got chips or cracks in your windshield that need fixing? If so it’s important to get your car looked at as soon as possible. Cracked or chipped wind screens can be dangerous. The wind screen is part of your vehicles structure and it is important to keep it in good condition in order to avoid accidents and injury. If you have a cracked windshield it may also be leaky. If your windshield is cracked then it is best to replace it rather than getting rain proofing.
Windshield replacement can be done fairly cheaply by a mechanic. It is a simple process which can be done quickly and easily. It is best to get your windshield looked at in order to save yourself time and money in the future.

If your windscreen is in good condition then you may consider rain proofing it. There are a number of products available on the market which will help to keep your windshield waterproof. Products such as Rain-X and Aquapel create a layer of chemicals between the glass and windscreen wipers, this will help to keep the windscreen water proof and will also allow water to run off the windscreen more effectively. Carnuba Wax can also be applied for greater waterproofing.
However the best way to ensure that your windscreen is kept water tight is to invest in a good pair of windscreen wipers. Windscreen wipers will remove most of the water from your window, even in heavy rains. It’s important that your wipers deliver an even pressure to your window, are fitted snugly against the windscreen and move in an even sweep. Windscreen wipers need to be replaced at regular intervals as they will stop working as effectively when they get old. Aim to replace windscreen wipers at least twice a year; some mechanics suggest as many as four replacements a year.
